Dog Fun for Everyone...

Obedience

Kindergarten Puppy Training (KPT)

KPT Classes are held all year round at the Fond du Lac County Kennel Club Clubhouse. This class is for puppies up to 6 months old. We teach very basic obedience with a stress on socialization. The puppy will learn, stay, off, down, come, heel, sit, no, jump and wait. Some puppies may exhibit behavioral problems at a young age and we talk about these problems in class and offer suggestions on how to stop bad behaviors. We would also recommend a Behavior Specialist if we feel we cannot handle the problem ourselves. We also talk about housebreaking, crate training, traveling with your pet, when to discipline, socialization and how to recognize dominant and subordinate behavior. We also have an obedience demonstration and a grooming demonstration. This class runs for 10 weeks, for 1 hour per week.

To be eligible for this class your puppy should be between the ages of 8 weeks and six months of age.  Puppies can be purebred or mixed breed.  Vaccinations must be up to date to fit with the age of the dog.
The next session of KPT class starts July 31st (Thursday evenings) contact Stephanie Jackson at 920-539-0420 or rsjackson644@charter.net.

Puppy Training - Next Steps

We will be starting a 4-5 week basic obedience class for older puppies (approx 6-12 months of age). Please see the Obedience page for more information.

Beginner Obedience

We will be starting a new session of beginner obedience for dogs 6 months and older. The first class is August 7th at 7:00 P.M. Contact mcnamarak@agnesian.com for more information or to sign up.

Agility

Agility is a great outlet for people who want to have fun with their dogs. It's fun and fast-paced. However, it does require a great deal of control over your dog, and that the dog is well-behaved with crowds of strange people and dogs. Contact rbrault@thesurf.com for more information. The first night of Beginner class is May 7th, 2008.

Beginner

Intro-To-Agility Classes are a great place to start.  These will run on Thursdays for an hour, and start at 5:30 PM, with the first class on May 8.   Classes will be outdoors on grass in all but threatening weather, in our fenced-in area; the clubhouse is at Reinhart Rd and DeNeveu Lane.  Intro-To-Agility classes will be taught by club members.  Fee for a 6 week session is $50.00.  There will also be a "Level 2" class.  Trainers for both classes are Kennel Club members.

This class will be an introduction to the sport of dog agility.  Dogs will be taught how to safely perform obstacles found in an AKC Agility course, including some simple sequencing.  It is required that your dog already knows some obedience.  Instant and reliable responses to you under distractions will assure that you will be able to spend the class time agility training your dog.  Formal obedience compliance is not necessary, but it is important for you to command your dog's attention when needed.

Intermediate Agility Classes An intermediate agility class will also be taught by club members. Classes are in the same place as intro, starting May 22. You should have at least been through a beginner agility class or competed before to be in the Intermediate class.

Advanced Classes with Joan L. Simon

Fond du Lac County Kennel Club is again pleased to offer Agility classes for the summer of 2008 with Joan L. Simon. Joan is from the Sheboygan area, has trained the public in obedience for may years, has had one of the first MACH dogs in Wisconsin, and is a respected and sought after AKC agility judge.

These sessions will meet on Wednesday evenings at the Fond du Lac County Kennel Clubhouse, Reinhardt Road and DeNeveu Lane. Classes will be held outdoors on grass in a fenced in area, and will be rescheduled if local weather is extreme. We will be using AKC regulation equipment. Group size will be strictly limited to 8 dog/handler reams, so please register early. Available sessions will start at 5:30 and 6:30.

Conformation

The most widely known AKC event is the conformation show. If you've seen a dog show on TV, it was probably a conformation show. Animal Planet has Conformation isn't just about bloodlines, grooming, handling, presence, or training. It's about all of them. If you have a purebred dog that fits the AKC Breed Standard, and want to learn more about how to prepare for the ring, classes can help.

We hold our conformation classes on Wednesday evenings at the Fond du Lac Fairgrounds Cow Palace starting at 7:30 pm. The class is a drop in class and open to members and non members. The last class for Spring 2008 will be May 14, with classes resuming likely September 10. A fee of $3.00 for members and $5.00 for non members is charged to help defray the cost of the building rental. Classes are taught by kennel club members with an occasional guest instructor.

To be eligible to this class, your dog must be purebred and can be as young as 12 weeks of age on up. Dogs must have vaccinations to fit with the age of the dog

To fill the gap during the summer months, there will be run throughs at the kennel club on Tuesday nights for $5 per run.
